Candle Safety & Facts

 Why buy Soy?

Soy candles are biodegradable and completely non-toxic, making them the healthy, natural alternative.

Other benefits of choosing soy are:

Soy wax supports the American Farmers.
Soy wax is derived from soy beans.
Soy wax is 100% non-toxic and a renewable resource.
Soy wax burns cleaner; little to no black soot.
Soy wax cleans up with soap and hot water.
Soy wax burns 35% to 50% longer than mass produced candles.
Soy wax burns completely.
Soy wax releases fragrances naturally, faster and longer.

Are Soy Candles Really "Soot Free?"

Now, you may have read or heard other candle manufacturers claim that their all natural wax candles are "Soot Free". This is a big misconception. No candle can be "soot free", but vegetable wax candles do have less soot.

The only way a candle can be soot free is if the flame is completely blue (ie: propane torch), meaning there is 100% combustion. Unlike other soy candle manufacturers, we are not going to guarantee that our soybean wax is soot-free. To make a claim such as that would be misleading, and no wax can make that claim.

While soy wax its-self is vegetable based and will not produce the thick black soot that you see on mass produced candle containers. Soot can be a "white soot" that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Soy wax will produce little black soot---you will not see that thick black ring on the jars, nor will it do the black soot damage to homes, but it may produce "white soot". No other manufacturer will tell you that.  Anytime you have a flame and combustion you may have soot and anytime you add synthetics such as fragrance oils and dyes, you will have soot. Additionally, using too large of a wick or the incorrect wick can produce soot as well. Poor performing candles can create more fine particulate -- like in smog -- than diesel buses on a downtown street.

Soy Candle Burning Tips

*Your soy candle is much like a memory box. You must maintain it a bit for the best burn. Below we've put together the Soy Candle Burning Tips that
we find most important for the maintenance of your Jack Be Nimble Candles

* f you are having any problems with excessive smoke, blow it out and trim the tip away. This typically happens if the soy candle burns for more than 5 hours.

* Burn your soy candle until it develops a complete melt pool on the top. This will help cure the memory of the soy candle, so the next time you burn your soy candle it will know to go that far for a cleaner burn.

* Drafts are not good for soy candles. Keep your candles as clear of draft-ways and fans as possible. Otherwise you'll get a sideways burn and that can be real funky for your soy candle.

* If you're one of those who loves to move your soy candle when it's lit ... well, please don't do that. This is really not the best thing for the wax pool
to slosh around. It messes up the wick and the burn.

* Enjoy Your Soy as you burn your soy candle, and know that it's a cleaner, crisper burn and it's made with more light than just the flicker.

How to remove candle wax

From Carpet
Place ice in plastic bag and use it to freeze the wax, chipping all off that you can.
or
Take a brown paper bag or paper towel and lay it over the wax.  Make sure there is no writing on either side of the bag.
Heat iron to medium-hot and press it over the bag/paper towel allowing it to absorb the wax.
Do not touch the carpet with the iron.
You may need to use several bags/paper towels in order to remove all the wax possible.
Make sure that you check your iron for wax residue before using it on clothing.
Once you removed all the wax that you can absorb, clean the area with carpet stain remover.  If that does not work, try using a steam vacuum with carpet cleaner to remove the stain/ Also, make sure you use extremely HOT water when using a steam vacuum.

From Wood
Heat the wax with a blow dryer and slide a dull plastic instrument (such as a credit card) under it to pop it up.
Clean any residue with warm water and dish washing liquid, rinsing well and then polishing.

From Clothing
Remove garment.
Let harden, and then remove as much wax as possible.
Pour boiling water through affected area.
Repeat until was is removed from clothing.
Then was as usual.
Do not use carpet method on clothes as it could set the candle dye in fabric.
